*sidenote: see if you understand this poem to its fullest extent. (not for my poetry class, but certainly practicing usage of "poetic style".)

you are a garden

ardent are the roses
of your cheeks.
loyal are the irises
of your eyes.

believe me, tulips;
are reaching skybound to the orchid
clouds. a painting of fresh carnation
on your complexion. a tree
for a head and leaves
for hair, you stand proud like narcissus
though Narcissus, a flower. the daffodils
of your smile are yellow, the sun
flower, too.

love
ly are the stargazers
neatly planted in the garden.

*sidenote: may i warn you that this poem has numerous elements about the same thing. yeah, see; even that statement was confusing. just read.

confusing simplicity

slow waves and fast-paced
heartbeats.
clear waters and vague
visions.

teach me how to be
and not just be,
show me how to live
and not just live.

i am complex and confused;
so are maps.
i am plain and common;
so are your jeans.

if i only knew what i am talking about,
rather than what i was talking about.
if only i could see you,
not just see you.

bright sunset and subtle
expressions.
monochrome picture and colorful
emotions.

and even if make no sense
i make sense.
even if there is no reason,
need not any reason for reason.

that's why i can still see clearly
into your eyes through
my opaque lenses, black hole;
never-ending love
somewhere in there.

keep strumming that guitar.

(c)2003 mai kozai

silence is also music. {3:38 PM}

choosing to love

hold that chord a while longer
while i adjust mine.
hold that note until it fades
into mine.

but hold me forever.

if you let go,
i'm afraid i might fall.
i've lived without you,
but now that you're in my life,
i choose to live with you.

and if you strum that guitar
like you do,
i might cry.

if you sing to me,
i will sing for you,
but i might cry.

but so sweet are the tears of the well of
happiness .

the journey

falling leaf.

from which tree have you flown,
and where will you fall?

will you fall?

the gentle of the breeze
takes you there.

is that where you want to be?

did you force your self away,
or are you crying?

are you searching for something,
or running away?

let me follow you,
keep you company.

a journey on your own
can get lonely at times.

a defeated you

if you're trying to push me down,
you aren't trying hard enough.
if you're trying to break me in pieces,
it won't work. so tough
luck.

i like it when i hear your words.
not from you, though.
i never hear anything from you,
only from others.
and i don't believe them
but they at least have a clue.

life is miserable without you in it.
but now that you're in it,
so unfortunate is the outcome.
consequences for letting in
so light-heartedly.
that's okay.
i want you here now

to make me stronger,
to make you weaker,
to make me.

the more you try,
the more strength i get.
what a win-win situation.

here ar some works of poetry from the famous. i haven't shared any with you in quite a while, so here they are.

love song

how could i keep my soul so that it might
not touch on yours? how could i elevate
it over you to reach to other things?
oh, i would like to hide it out of sight
with something lost in endless darkenings,
in some remote, still place, so desolate
it does not sing whenever your depths sings.
yet all that touches us, myself and you,
takes us together like a violin bow
that draws a single voice out of two strings.
upon what instrument have we been strung?
and who is playing with us in his hand?
sweet is the song.

(c) rainer maria rilke

one of my favorites from frost below.

carpe diem

Age saw two quiet children
go loving by at twilight,
he knew not whether homeward,
or outward from the village,
or (chimes were ringing) churchward.
he waited (they were strangers)
till they were both out of hearing
to bid them both be happy.
"be happy, happy, happy,
and seize the day of pleasure."
the age-long theme is Age's.
'twas Age imposed on poems
their gather-roses burden
to warn against the danger
that overtaken lovers
from being overflooded
with happiness should have it.
but bid life seize the present?
it lives less in the present
than in the future always,
and less in both together
than in the past. the present
is too much for the senses,
too crowding, too confusing--
too present to imagine.

*sidenote: before you get confused as to what i am saying in this poem, i would like to point out some things. "cloud" in this poem hold two meanings: a cloud in the sky and the clouding of the mind. the person in this particular poem is wanting to set him/herself free from his/her "owner", or the person who is carrying this confusion. it makes no sense at the beginning, but at the end, it should bring the whole thing together. it is another exercise for class. enjoy.

cloud

if i were a cloud,
floating.

it would be simple to show my emotions.

angst and depression; the storm is near.
fear and loneliness; i will water the garden.
jovial and content; loftily i would swim
in the sea of blue.

and here i am, now; a cloud
dark inside your head, loud
voices.
i call no rain to fall over your rosy mountains.
all i want is out.

if you rid of me,
free!
both, we'll be,
and no longer will i weigh your mind
down.
i will rise upward
and join the sun.

free as a cloud,
but i was never born free.
my father was Confusion,
my mother was You.

attracting opposites

a merry-go-round
of sounds.
your voice, i can make out,
shuffling about
the painting.

it cries out in short breaths,
"don't

leave

me

here

alone"

like you are balancing on the
edge
of lfe and death.

do not fear; we're
safe if we have each other.

"but

i

am

dy

ing."

we are opposites,
extremes,
still standing after the storm
storming in.

"lean on me," i say.
and slowly you catch your breath.

we could hear the familiar tunes
fainting out of our marry-go-round.

*sidenote: there are many personal shadows in this poem, but i actually wrote this for my poetry class. enjoy.

evanescent kiss

to whom those sweet lips belong,
i have waited the dawdling years
for your kiss.

and finally, you come,
in time of slumber,
and breathe life in me.

your hands trace my cheeks a blush,
your eyes sing the lullaby, hush!
do not open your mouth to speak;
words fail us time and again and weak
are we, under their rubble.

slowly you magnify in the darkness.
i can hear my heart beat echo yours
perfectly in rhythm
with the lullaby in your eyes.
and as though to transfer this magic,
magical moment.
sweet,
sweet,
k
iss.

awakening soon thereafter,
crinkled bedsheets and an alarm clock.

but i could still hear your music
in my eyes.
