daring diffidence originally written: march 22, 2004
she declared simply, "i like you."
he meddled, confused: "what is love?"
she coaxed daringly: "notice me!"
he blinked dumbfoundedly: "does she like me?"
she took the lead, said, "come with me."
he followed, questioning, "is this pure infatuation?"
she leaned in, puckered, "kiss me."
he retracted, denied, "she can't love me."
she inssited, "i said, kiss me!"
he blushed, mumbled, "you are really pretty."
she giggled, smiled, "i'm quite fond of you."
he questioned himself: "should i take this chance?"
she waits, "i led him this far."
he waits, "i fear this rejection."
she won't act: "the last step is his to take."
he can't act: "i fear this rejection."
if only she were brave.
if only he knew.
