here is a new series i've been working on... it consists of 8 poems: 2-4, 3-4, 4-4, 5-4, 6-8, 7-8, 9-8, and 12-8. you probably noticed it by now: the titles are time signatures. these times are not arbituary time signatures; they are picked for personal reasons for this series. as you will figure out soon enough, there is a certain pattern to them... more specifically the rhythm in which you read them and see them on the computer screen. there will be sequels to this series, including one called "syncopation: a series" and "seasons in concert: a series". but for now, please enjoytempos: a series.
6-8
here is the ballad in
6-8 time. it sounds like
your voice falling like rain
as i lie in slumber
dreaming of you; you with
that childish smirk and those
playful eyes, dodging mine
as if you were either
too bashful to lock a
gaze, or afraid that may-
be you would gaze at me
forevermore; but see,
life is too short to be
careful all the time, you
need to take some risks, for
the greatest risk is not
taking one at all. and
you leaped like faith into
a faithless being, yet
succeeded in gently
closing my wary eyes:
"love like this should be blind,"
you say, and all over
again, i spiral down
this dream sequence of your
lullaby and haven.
